Join us for our TAIKO PARTY!

Edo Bayashi Ensemble

In January, we postponed the Taiko Party that was supposed to focus on our Edo Bayashi Ensemble.

We are pleased it has been set for Saturday, April 25th!

TAM’s Edo Bayashi Ensemble

Did you know that there's a group called TAM Edo Ensemble? There are seven members and we meet twice a month. We dedicate ourselves to studying traditional Japanese music which originated in the Edo period (1603-1867), share the cultural experience with the audience, and raise their awareness and understanding of cultural diversity.  To accomplish that goal, we perform the music in the traditional form, and introduce its history and traditional Japanese musical instruments to our audience.  We are one of the few ensembles in North America equipped with a complete set of the traditional instruments for Edo Bayashi and the only ensemble that is studying the advanced version of the music.  We will further study the music to serve the community as performers and to communicate the meaning of learning cultural diversity.

We will be performing :

Edo Bayashi Level 2 (Old Tokyo Festival Song)

There might be some groups in North America studying Edo Bayashi Level 1, but there might be only a handful groups that are studying Level 2 as well.

KOTOBUKIJISHI and MODOKI (US Premier!!)

Shishimai (Kotobukijishi) is a traditional Japanese lion dance performed at festivals and celebrations. It brings good luck, chases away evil spirits, and blesses the community and Modoki (Comic Interlude) is a playful hand dance performed during Satokagura (traditional Shinto folk performance) while Shishi rests, adding humor and balance to the performance.
