December 4th Monday 6:00-7:30PM
Korekara: Let's play together!
Tuition $20 Member/$30 Non-Member

Composed as a gift to the taiko community at the 2005 North American taiko conference, Korekara expresses the spirit of deep appreciation for the past as the taiko community builds with excitement towards the future. It has also served as a creative catalyst for groups to re-arrange in their own unique way. On Tuesday, December 5th, join Michelle and Toru from Unit Souzou to perform this open source taiko composition together on the stage. You will need to attend one taiko workshop on Monday, December 4th and review the composition arrangement. Let's celebrate our taiko community and bring the power of our beat together in unity. You may still join this workshop if you are not performing the song Tuesday Dec 5th.

December 6th Wednesday 8:00-9:30PM
Kiai
Tuition $40 Member/$50 Non-member

Through selected kakegoe (vocal phrases) inspired by music from the 47 prefectures of Japan, you'll explore vocal techniques that will improve the volume and quality of your kiai. Through some surprisingly challenging combinations with energetic taiko rhythms, the voices of drums and players combine to create a festive atmosphere that will leave you inspired by and assured of the power of kiai!

December 7th Thursday 6:30-8:00PM
Uchiwa Movement
Tuition $40 Member/$50 Non-member

As an instrument, uchiwa daiko (fan drums) offer the versatility and mobility to coordinate complex movement with sound. This workshop will teach uchiwa movement drills that will lead into learning lively choreography from UNIT SOUZOU’s composition, ‘Korekara,’ to illustrate the expansive opportunity this instrument can provide.
