Learn Iris Shiraishi's newest song

Join in its premiere at the Como Japanese Obon Festival

HEIWA (2019)

“What might a music/movement expression of peace sound and look like?” Iris created Heiwa (peace) as her response. Deeply moved by PJ Hirabayashi’s TaikoPeace gathering last year, Iris wanted to create an inclusive piece with instrumental flexibility, movement and interlocking rhythms/melodies accessible to all kinds of groups. Most of all, she wanted to create her own expression of hope and joy, with a touch of her baby boomer 60’s protest chanting, all within a Japanese obon framework!

Come and learn the movement portion of Heiwa and be ready to join in at the Como Obon Festival (Sun Aug 18th, time tba) the next day during ensemble-MA's performance! If you have a paranku or uchiwa, bring it along!

When: Saturday, August 17th, 10:30-12:00
Where: TAM Studio, 2161 W University Ave # 117, St. Paul, MN 55114
Tuition: Regular class punch or $30 nonmember
All skill levels welcome!!
